“There’s always a new beginning,” says singer and songwriter Rebekka Thornbech, who releases the EP Spring on 16 March, which is the first part of a different musical experiment.
The project consists of four EP releases, one for each season. The first EP contains three numbers, and all the numbers from the four releases will be collected in chronological order on the LP, “A Year In A Life”, published in December 2018.
The project becomes a kind of diary where the listener can follow Rebekka Thornbech’s life through 2018. It is an attempt to provide insight into the songwriter process as well as a year in a human life. The interesting thing is that no numbers have been written yet and that Rebekka Thornbech therefore does not know what topics the numbers are about to circle. It all depends on what happens in her life during the year.
“Anything can happen. No one can predict life, which, as you know, can swiftly change course. But whatever happens during the year, it will definitely affect my song writing and future songs for the EPs, “says Rebekka Thornbech, whose musical roots are deeply planted in Country, Americana and People.
“Feel before you think”
The period from a song born to the published is often very long. The words, the melody and the actual recording process can be a long process. “In my new project I have some dogmas. I only want to spend just one month on both song writing and recording of each EP. I am therefore forced to make some quick choices. In this way, I hope to create a sense of presence and immediacy in my song writing and in my narratives. It’s a challenge for me, but I’m sure the result will be a very personal initiative, “says Rebekka Thornbech, explaining that she regards each of the four EP releases as a new beginning.
“After my last release, Wanderlust (2016), I went to musical hi and thinking box. This time I’ll take the first step four times in a year. I want to be closer to my listeners, and I trust that I can do something about myself. “Thus,” A Year In A Life “is not just a new beginning, but musical but also a part of Rebekah Thornbech’s personal development.
Thus, “A Year In A Life” will be a continuous story of a human and songwriter’s development over a year. It will be a testimony that will reflect Rebekka Thornbech’s life in 2018.
“Spring is on the run”
The first EP release “Spring” testifies to the coming of spring. The EP consists of three tracks, “One of These Days”, “Shine” and “A Heart Open Wide”. All three numbers awaken a sense of hope, optimism and inefficiency.
The song “One Of These Days” is about hoping to be able to take the first steps and start over again soon. “Shine” is about the light of the sun, which begins to shine through and illuminates everything, both the good and the evil. “A Heart Open Wide” is about the desire for the adventure, the unknown and the hope to find one to be followed along the way.
Like Rebekka Thornbech’s earlier releases, her two younger sisters, Hannah and Emma Sommer, participate in choirs. In addition, Per Solgaard and bassist Kristian Martinsen participate in guitars, keys, synth-surfaces, drums, etc. Kristian Martinsen has also produced and mixed the EP.
