Strawberry Blonde Returns with a New Single “Waterfall”
Twin sisters Betina and Anja Følleslev, known as Strawberry Blonde, are back with their shared musical project in a powerful new country-folk single.
“Waterfall” is a song about a whirlwind romance that, unfortunately, is not reciprocated. “It would have been easier if it was just a fling,” sings Strawberry Blonde—in lyrics that face the painful side of love, at the moment when hope has faded, accepting that no change is in sight. “Some mountains you just can’t move”—because change cannot be forced upon others; it must begin within oneself.
Falling for the wrong person is a story that Betina Følleslev knows all too well from her own life. “Can you still believe in love the next time?” she asks. “Our take on the lyrics was that if you repeatedly experience unreciprocated attention, it shapes you as a person—just like the Ice Age shaped the rolling landscape of Samsø, where the song was written and recorded with Søren Jacobsen and American songwriter Andy Davis. You learn to be strong—not just when you realize your love is not returned, but also to avoid being hurt again. You get through the crisis, but you may also shield yourself from new potential relationships,” says Betina Følleslev.
On a broader level, the song can also reflect being in a close relationship that is not healthy. “It can be difficult to break free, but it is necessary to move forward, to be free, and to find your own happiness,” adds Anja Følleslev.
“Waterfall” is, like life itself, full of dilemmas—fleeting moments alongside the big, sweeping strokes. “Nothing is constant except change. Even the mountains that rise in the landscape move ever so slightly, while the water, through rivers and waterfalls, is in constant motion. You can’t step into the same river twice,” Betina remarks, referencing her studies in philosophy. In that way, Waterfall is also a song that reflects how the twin sisters find themselves at a pivotal point in life.
