Janey Clewer, a classically trained pianist since the age of five, is an accomplished singer-songwriter. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelors of Music in Voice, from Indiana University’s Jacobs School Of Music.

There she studied with Grammy-award-winning, renowned Metropolitan Opera soprano, Eileen Farrell, as well as renowned operatic bass, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni. In her time at I.U. she also sang jazz standards alongside pianist Joey Singer: serving as the opening act for Mercer Ellington with the Duke Ellington Orchestra and the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra.

Shortly after graduating and moving to New York City, she started touring internationally with superstar Julio Iglesias. Janey was his duet partner and background-singer for nine years.  After her first year of touring with Julio, Janey relocated to Los Angeles, California where she began her career as a session singer. On and off camera, she worked on countless films, television shows, commercials and record sessions.

Janey has had the honor of recording and/or performing with many stars, including: Ray Charles, Sir Elton John, Luther Vandross, Harry Connick Jr., Gladys Knight, Wynton Marsalis, Olivia Newton-John, Julio Iglesias, Patti LaBelle, Peter Cetera, Paul Anka, Isaac Hayes, Rick James, Chaka Kahn, Cher, George Benson, Bill Champlin, Michael Bolton, Michael Sembello, Kenny G, Waylon, Don Shelton, Vanessa Williams, Nick Lachey, Thelma Houston, Kenny Loggins, Lara Fabian, Alvin Chea, Ruggero Robin, and Mel Tormé, as well as worked with producers David Foster, Trevor Horn, Tommy LaPuma, Rod Temperton, and Michel Colombier.

Janey’s body of work as singer-songwriter is prolific. She has written, produced, arranged and mixed twelve CDs, released both nationally and internationally.

Her albums feature renowned artists and musicians like Eric Carmen, Richard Marx, Peter Cetera, Randy Waldman, Vinnie Colaiuta, Bruce Gaitsch, Michael Sembello, Dave Boruff, John Patitucci, Patti LaBelle, Katey Sagal, Kenny G., Glenn Medeiros, Joey Singer, and the Jets.

In addition, Janey’s original songs have been recorded by various artists, including: Patti LaBelle, Sarah Brightman, Olivia Newton-John, Eric Carmen, Lara Fabian, Jay Graydon, Wendy Moten, Kenny G. and Richard Marx.

From 2008 – 2014, Janey was the featured duet partner and choir director for George Benson’s Nat King Cole Tribute Concerts, which toured internationally with full orchestra.

In May of 2009, Janey, Michael Sembello, and Bruce Gaitsch formed a group called The Bossa Nova Hotel and released the album “Moon Island,” with EMI-Japan. A woman of many talents, Janey not only played keyboards and sang on every song, but she also arranged, recorded, and mixed the entire album herself.

“Moon Island” won Best-Engineered Pop CD in Japan in December of 2009. In 2012, the Bossa Nova Hotel’s cover of “A Day In The Life Of A Fool” became the theme song for the popular Japanese TV show “LIFE,” and is still running today. In 2016 the Bossa Nova Hotel released their stunning version of Fragile as a balm for the troubled times we live in.

Starting with The Bossa Nova Hotel in 2010, Janey and her husband Bruce Gaitsch have  performed regularly at The Cotton Club in Tokyo, Japan. In 2012, Janey and Bruce began their own series of appearances, called “AOR Sessions (Volumes 1, 2 and 3)” each time with a special guest: such as renowned songwriter Randy Goodrum. Currently, Janey and Bruce are discussing with The Cotton Club who will be the next guest artist for Volume 4.

One of Janey’s most significant accomplishments occurred in 2013, when Lara Fabian released her critically acclaimed CD Le Secret. This album features fourteen songs co-written by Janey and Lara. Le Secret entered the French charts at #1 and is now available worldwide on iTunes and Amazon. Janey’s songs debuted in the U.S. at Carnegie Hall in New York City, December 27th, 2013, to a sold-out audience.

Janey released her twelfth CD, Beautifully Broken. Additionally, she has written and produced an instrumental album with the incredibly talented Bulgarian violinist Desislava Kondova. Janey continues to work with artists here and abroad. She is also developing her original musical for the stage.
