Urban Soul

Their first release ”Nothing is impossible” introduces a nordic horn driven smooth jazz album featuring an all star line-up.

This dynamic smooth jazz duo saw the light of day as saxophone player Andreas Andersson and trumpet player Jonas Lindeborg were touring with one of Sweden’s biggest artists Björn Skifs(Hooked on a feeling).

They set out their goal to make a smooth jazz and soul album and they started making a wishlist for the people that they wanted to play on their debut album. The session was recorded mainly at the legendary Benny Andersson (ABBA) studio at Skeppsholmen, Stockholm. Besides Lindeborg/Andersson these sessions featured Anders Hedlund on drums (Robyn, Veronica Maggio), Thobias Gabrielson on bass (Nils Landgren, Timbuktu), Calle Flemsten on keyboards and Tomas Bergquist on percussion.

The duo also had the opportunity to have som extraordinary guest artists on the album. “Some of the guests are old pals who just fit in this concept so well” says Lindeborg, “It was an absolute necessity to get Jonathan Fritzén (smooth jazz billboard chart topper) invoveld at an early stage, he’s been a great inspiration and support for this project” comments Andersson. Also featuring on a few tunes is their long time partner-in-crime Jonas Wall (Mezzoforte) on tenor saxophone, who also did the mixing for 6 songs on the album.

For the vocal tracks Urban Soul managed to get some of the world’s foremost soul singers. “Bill Champlin (Chicago) happened to be in Stockholm playing with Peter Friestedt and was up for a live session, so we just kind of went for it!” . The result is the tune “Hands on love” which also is the first single from the album.

Other vocal tracks were recorded by Michael Ruff, Lovisa and Sara Nordenberg. Further guests are Joje Wadenius and Andreas Öberg on guitar.

The songs are a mix between the original smooth material by the band members, but also some favorites such as Stevie Wonder/Whitney Houston duet “We didn’t know” and an orchestral version of the Journey classic “Open arms”!

The result: a horn driven, organic smooth jazz album with vocal elements from some of the worlds most renowned artists in the genre. Enjoy!
