Michael Vesterskov releases new live studio album: Kort Fortalt

An album about longing, enchantment, magic and the courage to feel oneself.

A live studio album recorded in a single day with musicians Anders Filipsen and Samuel Hällkvist and producer and technician Morten Bue in the Black Tornado Studio. The album is intended as a holistic experience: not just a collection of songs, but a concert, a breather and a story that unfolds in real time.

Recorded as a concert – in one day

After a series of successful concerts during 2025, the trio decided to go into the studio and record an album as if it were one of their live performances. Whereas on the previous album Home Sessions, Vesterskov challenged himself by being both a technician, producer and multi-instrumentalist for an entire year, this time the desire was to work more intuitively and collectively.

“With this new album, I have once again challenged myself. Together with Anders Filipsen and Samuel Hällkvist and producer/technician Morten Bue, this album was recorded in a single day,” says Michael Vesterskov.

What is special about Vesterskov’s concert format – and thus also about the album – are the readings that tie the songs together. Here, spoken word and songwriting meet in an intimate space, where the presence between musicians and audience becomes particularly evident.

“It is in the reading that I feel the audience particularly strongly. A kind of spoken words meets the songwriter – a singer/songwriter universe mixed with spoken words.”

Longing as a driving force

The album *Kort fortalt* revolves around longing in many forms: a longing for perspective, for change, for the magic of existence, and for the vivid colors of childhood. The title track, “Kort fortalt,” captures the album’s poetic core with lyrics that are at once grounded and dreamlike, moving between the discord of the world and the inner landscape of the human spirit:

“In short / In simple words / What we forgot beneath the moon where we dwell / Were the dreams for this earth.”

The song depicts a world defined by a turbulent sea and the unbearable presence of lies, yet it concludes with a shared longing for home—for something more primal and more true.

Another key track on the album is “Vi binder os med løfter,” which explores the human quest for peace and meaning amidst constant motion, repetition, and demands. The song poses questions rather than offering answers, examining what we commit ourselves to—and what we learn along the way:

“How many paths must be crossed / Before the heart finds peace.”

Breaking the ice between people

The album ends with the song A very special time, which was written based on an experience that became decisive for Vesterskov. One day, when he was considering stopping writing music, the phone rang while driving on the highway. A voice he did not recognize said:

“Michael, you must not stop writing music. Your music means a lot – you should know.” The phone was hung up, and Vesterskov never found out who the person was. Shortly after, he wrote the song.

When he was very young, Michael Vesterskov often went down to the harbor in Aalborg, the city where he was born. Here were the two small icebreakers David and Goliat, which could break the deep-frozen ice and open the way to the open sea. “I remember thinking back then: When I grow up, I want to break the ice between people.” That hope runs like a silent thread through In short. A desire to create connection in a time marked by unrest and division.

After a concert, an audience member came up to Vesterskov with tears in his eyes. He said that he lives in Ukraine and has used Vesterskov’s music at night while bombs were going off nearby. “If my music can be used for hope and to alleviate anxiety and fear and ‘heal’ the nerves a little, there is nothing greater for me.”

In Brief is an album that insists on immersion and yet being “less sad” in a time when everything is going fast and can seem overwhelming. “I hope ‘In Brief’ can make us feel ourselves and believe in who we are – both as individuals and in the community.”
